Description
icare XP Support Firm Overlay – Firm Support for Mobility, Transfers and Underlay Use
The icare XP Support Firm Overlay is a 50 mm firm support layer for situations where the goal is to increase stability rather than add softness. It can be placed over a suitable existing mattress to create a firmer surface for bed mobility and transfers, used beneath some alternating-air mattresses as a supportive underlay, or used beside the bed as a low-profile crash mat where appropriate.
iCare specifies a 50–250 kg user-weight range, a Firm Feel and a manufacturer Low Risk pressure-care classification. The Zerotec™ medical barrier cover is waterproof, wipeable, breathable and highly elastic, supporting practical care while allowing the surface to move without excessive resistance.

XP Support, ActiveX™ or ActiveFloat™ Overlay?
Choose the XP Support Firm Overlay when the priority is firmness, stability and easier movement. Choose the ActiveX™ Overlay when you want to make a sound mattress softer with temperature-responsive pressure relief. Choose the ActiveFloat™ Overlay when soft pressure relief and shear reduction are the main concerns.
These products solve different problems. XP Support is not the right choice simply because a user needs “more pressure care”; its main role is adding structural support and stability. For users with significant pressure-injury risk, mattress and overlay selection should be based on the complete support surface and individual needs.
An Overlay Does Not Repair a Failed Mattress
When used over an existing mattress, the mattress underneath must still be structurally sound and appropriate for the user. Adding a firm overlay may change the feel of a mattress, but it cannot correct broken-down foam, severe sagging, damaged springs or an unsuitable bed system.
When used beneath an alternating-air mattress, confirm that the air system is designed to work with an underlay and that the combined bed height, transfer setup and clinical performance remain appropriate.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the XP Support Firm Overlay designed for?
It is designed to add firmness and stability to a suitable mattress, support mobility and transfers, act as an underlay for some alternating-air systems, or serve as a low crash mat.
Who may benefit from a firmer overlay?
It can suit users who find a soft mattress difficult to roll or push up from, or who need a more stable edge and surface for transfers.
Will it make a soft mattress firmer?
Yes, provided the underlying mattress is still structurally sound and supportive.
Can it fix a sagging or worn-out mattress?
No. Structural mattress problems should be addressed by replacing the unsuitable mattress rather than covering them with an overlay.
How is it different from the ActiveX™ Overlay?
XP Support adds firmness and stability. ActiveX™ does the opposite: it adds a softer, temperature-responsive pressure-relieving layer.
How is it different from the ActiveFloat™ Overlay?
ActiveFloat™ is a soft, highly elastic pressure-relief overlay with SlideSkin™ shear-reduction technology. XP Support is a firm structural support layer.
Can it be used under an alternating-air mattress?
Yes, with suitable systems. Confirm compatibility because the underlay becomes part of the complete pressure-care setup.
Why use an underlay beneath an alternating-air system?
It can provide additional structural support beneath the air mattress, including when the profiling bed changes position or air pressure varies.
Can it be used as a crash mat?
Yes. iCare describes it as suitable for low crash-mat use beside the bed. The surrounding environment and overall fall-management plan still need to be considered.
How thick is the overlay?
It is approximately 50 mm deep.
What user-weight range is it designed for?
iCare specifies 50–250 kg.
What pressure-care category does iCare give it?
iCare classifies the XP Support Firm Overlay as Low Risk.
Is it intended as a high-risk pressure-care topper?
No. Its main role is firm support and stability. Higher-risk pressure-care needs should be considered using an appropriate complete support surface.
Is the cover waterproof?
Yes. The Zerotec™ medical barrier cover is waterproof and wipeable while remaining breathable and elastic.
What sizes are available?
Single, Long Single, King Single, Short Double, Queen and Split Queen are currently listed.
What is the product code?
The base product code is ICOXP, with size-specific codes for each option.
What warranty is included?
The overlay includes a 5-year limited warranty, subject to iCare’s warranty terms.
Is the icare XP Support Firm Overlay available for delivery across New Zealand?
Yes. The icare XP Support Firm Overlay is available for delivery throughout New Zealand.
