icare ActiveX™ Overlay – Soft Pressure Relief for an Existing Mattress
The icare ActiveX™ Overlay adds a 50 mm soft, temperature-responsive ActiveX™ layer over an existing mattress. As the foam warms around the user it becomes more compliant, allowing the surface to contour more closely and provide additional comfort and pressure redistribution without replacing the complete mattress.
It can be useful during recovery, periods of increased bed rest or where an otherwise serviceable mattress feels too firm. iCare specifies a 30–215 kg user-weight range and a manufacturer High Risk pressure-care classification with a Soft Feel. The waterproof, breathable Zerotec™ medical cover supports wipe-clean care and is highly elastic so it can move with the pressure-relieving surface.

ActiveX™, ActiveFloat™ or XP Support Overlay?
Choose the ActiveX™ Overlay when the main aim is to add softness and temperature-responsive pressure relief to a sound existing mattress. Choose the ActiveFloat™ Overlay when reduced shear is a particular priority; it uses a highly elastic ActiveFloat™ layer with SlideSkin™ technology. Choose the XP Support Firm Overlay when you want the opposite effect—a firmer, more stable surface for mobility, transfers, alternating-air underlay use or low crash-mat applications.
An Overlay Does Not Repair a Failed Mattress
An overlay changes the feel and pressure characteristics of the surface underneath it, but the underlying mattress still needs to be structurally sound, supportive and appropriate for the user. A badly sagging, damaged or unsuitable mattress should be replaced rather than disguised with an overlay.
For significant pressure-care needs, the overlay and underlying mattress should be considered together. Manufacturer risk classifications are useful guidance but do not replace an individual pressure-risk assessment, skin monitoring or clinical judgement.
