Overview

Long-Range All-Terrain Mobility with Bicycle-Style Control

The STERLING S800 by Scoozy is a distinctive four-wheel outdoor mobility scooter designed for people who want to cover serious distance while retaining a more active, intuitive driving feel. With a maximum speed of 18 km/h, an ISO-tested range of up to 50 km, large 18-inch wheels and adjustable suspension, it is built for longer outdoor journeys across sealed roads, shared paths, firm gravel and other suitable mixed surfaces.

What sets the S800 apart from a conventional mobility scooter is the way it is driven. Bicycle-style handlebars replace a traditional delta tiller, with a thumb throttle for acceleration, a handbrake for controlled stopping and cruise control for longer stretches. The result is a scooter that feels more like an accessible cycle-style vehicle than a traditional indoor-oriented mobility scooter.

Where the S800 Fits in the MoveSmart Scooter Range

The S800 sits between a conventional full-size mobility scooter and a more recreational all-terrain machine. It is faster and more range-focused than scooters such as the Pride Pathrider 140 XL, while remaining much more mobility-focused than an electric ATV.

Compared with the Pride Outback, the S800 is narrower at 68 cm, lighter at approximately 100 kg including the battery, and offers a higher stated speed and longer stated range. Compared with the Heartway Maven XR, it trades some ground clearance for a more compact footprint, lower overall weight and bicycle-style controls.

Choose the S800 when long-distance outdoor mobility, a more active steering style and mixed-surface capability matter more than car-boot portability.

Large Wheels and Adjustable Suspension for Mixed Surfaces

Four large 18-inch wheels give the S800 a very different stance from a typical mobility scooter. The larger wheel diameter helps it roll more comfortably over broken paving, compact gravel and other uneven surfaces, while the adjustable suspension can be tuned between a firmer, sportier feel and a softer, more cushioned ride.

The scooter has a stated maximum obstacle-climbing capability of 10 cm and a maximum slope of 10°. Those figures make it a capable outdoor scooter, but they do not turn it into an unrestricted off-road vehicle. Deep mud, unstable ground, steep cross-slopes and loose sand can exceed the safe limits of any mobility scooter.

Beach use and loose sand are not recommended. Fine sand can work into moving parts and loose surfaces can cause the scooter to sink or lose traction. Saltwater should also be avoided because of its corrosive effect on mechanical and electrical components.

Bicycle-Style Controls Instead of a Traditional Tiller

The S800 uses a wide bicycle-style handlebar rather than a conventional mobility-scooter tiller. Acceleration is controlled with a thumb throttle, while a handbrake provides a familiar braking action. Cruise control can be used on longer, suitable stretches where maintaining a steady speed is helpful.

The thumb throttle can be positioned on either the left or right side, and the control buttons can be repositioned to suit the rider. The handbrake is currently right-side only, so this is an important practical consideration for anyone with limited right-hand function.

A large colour display provides key driving information, while an NFC key-tag replaces a conventional ignition key. A USB charging connection is also built into the control area for compatible devices.

Adjustable Seating and Open Legroom

The S800 has been designed around a more open, forward driving position than many conventional scooters. The steering column does not fill the centre of the foot area, leaving useful room beneath the handlebars and making it easier to position the legs naturally.

The seat can be adjusted for height and fore/aft position, while the backrest angle and seat swivel can also be set to suit the rider. Armrest height and steering-column angle are adjustable as well. This level of adjustment makes a proper in-person setup particularly worthwhile, especially for taller users, people with restricted hip or knee movement, or anyone transitioning from cycling to a mobility scooter.

50 km Range and 70Ah Lithium Battery

A single 24V 70Ah lithium-ion battery powers the S800, with an ISO-tested range of up to 50 km. The maximum charging current is 8 A, with a typical charge from 10% to 90% taking around eight hours.

The scooter is designed around one battery rather than a dual-battery setup. Actual driving distance varies with user weight, terrain, gradients, tyre pressure, speed, temperature and battery condition, so the full 50 km should be treated as a maximum test figure rather than a guaranteed everyday distance.

Storage, Folding and Vehicle Transport

The S800 is not a lightweight travel scooter. At approximately 100 kg including the battery, it is better suited to garages, sheds, ramps, trailers or larger vehicles than routine lifting into a car boot.

For storage, the backrest and steering column can fold down, and the basket, headrest and seat can be removed without tools. With the seat removed, the overall height drops to under approximately 85 cm, which can make storage in vans, trailers or taller vehicle compartments more practical.

Accessories and Everyday Use

The S800 uses a KLICKfix-compatible accessory rail, opening up a useful range of compatible baskets, racks and selected cycling-style accessories. A rear mounting tube can also accept suitable mobility accessories such as cane, rollator and oxygen-bottle holders where compatibility is confirmed.

Mirrors, phone holders and additional storage can be useful additions for longer outdoor journeys, but accessories should never obstruct steering, controls, braking, lighting or safe transfers on and off the scooter.

The maximum user weight is 160 kg.

How much does the S800 weigh?

The complete vehicle weighs approximately 100 kg including the battery.

What battery does it use?

It uses one 24V 70Ah lithium-ion battery.

Can a second battery be fitted?

No. The S800 is designed around a single 24V 70Ah lithium-ion battery.

How long does charging take?

A typical charge from around 10% to 90% takes approximately eight hours with a maximum charging current of 8 A.

What type of controls does it use?

It uses bicycle-style handlebars with a thumb throttle, handbrake and cruise control instead of a conventional mobility-scooter delta tiller.

Can the throttle be moved to the left side?

Yes. The thumb throttle can be mounted on either the left or right side, and the button controls can also be repositioned. The handbrake remains right-side only.

Can it be used on gravel?

Firm compact gravel and suitable unsealed paths are within the type of mixed-surface use the S800 is designed for. Deep, loose or unstable gravel should still be avoided.

Can it be used on the beach?

No. Loose sand can cause the scooter to sink and can damage moving parts, while saltwater is corrosive.

Can the S800 be folded?

It can be partially folded for storage. The steering column and backrest fold down, and the basket, headrest and seat can be removed without tools.

Will it fit into a normal car boot?

Not easily. At around 100 kg it is much heavier than a travel scooter and is better suited to larger vehicles, ramps, trailers or dedicated mobility transport.

Yes. Seat height, fore/aft position, backrest angle and swivel position can be adjusted. Armrest height and steering-column angle can also be set to suit the rider.

What accessories are available?

The scooter supports selected KLICKfix-compatible baskets and racks plus suitable mirrors, phone holders and rear-mounted mobility accessories where fit is confirmed.

Is this mobility scooter available for delivery across New Zealand?

We can and do deliver to customers across New Zealand — however, mobility scooters and power chairs are more complex products and can be sizeable, so we generally recommend finding a local retailer who can provide hands-on service and ongoing support. It is also a good idea to test-drive or trial a mobility scooter before committing to a purchase. MoveSmart focuses its sales and servicing within the Central Plateau region, but we are always happy to chat. Get in touch and we can offer advice, suggest a trusted dealer closer to you, or work with you to tailor a solution.
